The Chilean flag was designed
by an American named Charles Wood, while serving as a volunteer in
the Chilean Army. The design was probably influenced by the
American flag. The white stands for the snows of the Andes
mountains. The blue represents the sky and the red represents the
sacrifices of the people. The white star is an ancient Indian
symbol meaning honor and it is thought that the five points of the
star represents the five original provinces of the country.
Each
flag shown is the flag used by that
nation's government and displayed at the U.N.
headquarters. Where noted the "civil" flag is also
available. It is identical to the "government" flag except
the seal is omitted.
Flags for Outdoor use are made of 100% heavyweight
nylon and finished with strong canvas headings and brass
grommets.
