The flag was adopted in October 1980 when
the islands became internally self-governing and proclaimed
Republic on 01 January 1981. The disk represents the
moon as a symbol of national unity and destiny.
The blue field is supposed to represent the independence.

Each
flag shown is the flag used by that
nation's government and displayed at the U.N.
headquarters. Where noted the "civil" flag is also
available. It is identical to the "government" flag except
the seal is omitted.
Flags for Outdoor use are made of 100% heavyweight
nylon and finished with strong canvas headings and brass
grommets.
