The Albanian flag contains
a double headed eagle on a red background. The eagle was first
used in the fifteenth century by a national hero named
Skanderbeg who successfully drove the Turks from his country
in 1443. The eagle symbolizes the Albanians historical belief
that the first Albanians were descendants of eagles. The red
background symbolizes the blood shed against their enemies.
